Holstee in Portland and Brooklyn
Holstee was recently featured in an article from the New York Observer that compared both Portland and Brooklyn. We feel very much attached to both places, as we have our headquarter in Brooklyn, but our boy Mikey is building up a West-coast residence in Portland.

The Jell-O Mold Competition has taken Jell-O out of the cafeteria, but the time has come to take it out of the kitchen altogether and into the world at large! This year, Jell-O takes New York.
To get things wobbling, we took Jell-O out to the city and into the classroom for a Jell-O Mold Workshop for NYC high school students run in partnership with Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum and Eyebeam Art + Technology Center, with additional support from Smart Design--now it's your turn to get in on the adventure.
This year's competition asks designers to explore the everyday uses of this wobbly, delicious, shape shifting medium.
Designers will compete for cash prizes, a year membership to the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, gifts from Papabubble, Holstee, and more!
A crack panel of respected judges including Allan Chochinov of Core77, Emily Elsen of Four & Twenty Blackbirds pie shop, Keith Ozar of MakerBot, and Josee Lepage of creative agency Bondtoo will announce the winners at 8pm on Saturday, June 25, 2011. The judging and awards ceremony will be held at the Gowanus Studio Space in Brooklyn.

Straw vs Gold is where the cool kids hang out. Not those mean girls from high school, or the douchey people you used to work with. These are the ones you trust unconditionally for advice on style, music, art, and events. The ones who you know will be the first to tell you about an obscure yet amazing Brooklyn band or a talented up-and-coming South African painter. The ones who are friends with the dopest people at the party, but will gladly introduce you. Straw vs Gold is a cultural location with no pretention or snobbery, a clubhouse for creative innovation in all its forms.
Garbage of Eden Video Review

There are some products that mean so much more when you know how they were made. Take the Recycled Bangles designed by Stephanie Huffaker founder of, Brooklyn based, Garbage of Eden. Each bangle is made using plastic bags, meticulously wrapped around a thin brass circle. Since each bracelet is made from a particular plastic bag each carries a unique story. For example the Blue bangles are all made from New York Times newspaper bags, the Orange and Yellow bangles are made from a two separate newspapers her mom receives in her hometown in Connecticut. The the beautiful Dark Green bangles are made from Barnes Nobles plastic bags. As cities are slowly realizing the impact of plastic bags floating around our planet and landfills it is amazing to see them upcycled into such a beautiful form. I picked up three bracelets for myself and have already give one to a friend. They look and feel great, and are a constant conversation starter. I was worried about quality because each bangle is handmade, but after a few weeks of wearing it - im convinced these bangles are indestructible! We are proud to support a local Brooklyn designer, her amazing creativity, and beautiful recycled products! (Video Review to Come soon!)
Score at Score Swap!
Score Swap is today - if you're not familiar, here is how it goes: Attendees bring their old clothes, music, books, etc, to the event and drop them at the door. Volunteers sort and distribute these items to themed departments where professional curators organize them into boutique-like displays. Attendees have the option to browse each department and take as much as they can carry! Meanwhile, DJs keep the party poppin’, artists silkscreen custom tote bags, and fashion photographers take photos of stylish “scored” outfits. At the end of the day, all leftover items and proceeds from the event are donated to charity. Check out the video from their last swap here. All proceeds from the May 29th Score! will be donated to Global Inheritance – a 501c3 that reinvents youth activism by providing tools via music, art and technology. All leftover donations will be delivered to charity, and all textiles will be recycled by Wearable Collections. Brain Pickings 500
Today, one of our favorite blogs, Brain Pickings passes the 500 post mark. To celebrate this incredible feat, we've got a trifecta collab consisting of Len Kendall, Brain Pickings + yours truly. Brain Pickings has curated the content of the top 50 posts, Len has brilliantly interpreted and illustrated each one and we will be hand silk screening each one onto upcycled T-shirts. Take a moment to explore the full artwork, which is available under CreativeCommons non-commercial license. The coolest part is, the artwork is fully clickable, meaning that each individual illustration will lead to it's respective post!

With this limited edition line, we’ve decided to give tee’s of years past, a new life. We’ve collected tee’s from friends + neighbors, carefully inspected them for quality, and gave them a sweet little Holstee touch. Each shirt has been hand silk screened, with a one of a kind print. Operation Photoshoot: Success
Fresh off the heels of our NC road trip, this past Sunday was the Photoshoot for our new T's and Fins. Big thank you to Carrot Creative for welcoming us into their office/ home/ playground, to Christian Shaboo for helping organize the shoot, Joe Lippi for snapping some super slick shots and all of our friends who took a day out of their weekend to join in the fun.
