Meet Augustina Woodgate, a super talented Argentinean born mixed medium artist and lead Poetry Bomber based out of Miami. I found her on my friend Bassam's Twitter feed and I'm amazed and highly inspired by her covert operations to introduce poetry more often into stranger's lives. I mean what a pleasant surprise it would be to pick out a sweet pair of vintage pants or a vintage shirt only to find a cherry on top with Augustina's graceful poetry tags.
Though a small operation, this is one of those ideas and moments of expression where it's so overwhelmingly positive and touching and effective that you feel better just learning about it and knowing Augustina is out there making it happen.
One of my favorite poems she shares is:
Life is a huge dream why work so hard? -Li Po
Augustina- if you happen to read this, thank you. Thank you for your creativity and sense of wonder and desire to connect and share with others thru your own personal means. I find your story and artistry an inspiration to continue living the life I want.
We have a special place in our hearts for designers who are able to use existing materials and efficiently turn them into beautiful, high quality products. Our latest curation, the Feuerwear belt, exemplifies this. The founding brothers, Martin and Robert Klüsener, experimented with with jute bags and canvas sails until they produced products like this belt from the plentiful, durable unique fire hose they found no longer being used.
Most importantly, not only does Feuerwear make exceptional products, but we can confirm that the brothers, behind this great company are super cool and among the most collaborative designers we've curated so far. Yes, we are hoping to be like them when we grow up. You can learn more about their approach to sustainability and the brothers on their site. The belts are available in 3 colors and are designed for individuals to customize the length. Watch our curatedx video review below or check here to pick one one. If you choose to pick it up in the next 24 hours use coupon code 'firehose.'
Big thanks to one of our favorite designers, Sascha Mombartz, for guest curating in the video below:
Just the other day Barrie and I got to meet Jenni Avins the founder of Closettour. Closettour is all about "The WONDER in wondering what to wear". It talks about the ways people value clothing from every perspective. In short, Closettour is to Clothes, as Omnivores Dilemma is to Food. An exploration of into fashion from someone who has experienced fashion on many levels as a student, as a connoisseur, and even on the production side of sustainable fashion line Edun.
Be sure to follow along with Closettour for some great insight and fun videos!
Score Swap is today - if you're not familiar, here is how it goes:
Attendees bring their old clothes, music, books, etc, to the event and drop them at the door. Volunteers sort and distribute these items to themed departments where professional curators organize them into boutique-like displays. Attendees have the option to browse each department and take as much as they can carry! Meanwhile, DJs keep the party poppin’, artists silkscreen custom tote bags, and fashion photographers take photos of stylish “scored” outfits. At the end of the day, all leftover items and proceeds from the event are donated to charity. Check out the video from their last swap here. All proceeds from the May 29th Score! will be donated to Global Inheritance – a 501c3 that reinvents youth activism by providing tools via music, art and technology. All leftover donations will be delivered to charity, and all textiles will be recycled by Wearable Collections.

With this limited edition line, we’ve decided to give tee’s of years past, a new life. We’ve collected tee’s from friends + neighbors, carefully inspected them for quality, and gave them a sweet little Holstee touch. Each shirt has been hand silk screened, with a one of a kind print.
Many thanks to Erin for helping make it happen!

A short "behind-the-scenes review": Sun, sun, sun...Holstee T-shirts, FINs, friends, lemonade and even more sun... We spent all Thursday and Friday of last week at our mobile Holstee shop in Union Square Market and it was definitely a success AND A LOT OF FUN, too! A good crowd of interesting, inspiring and creative people, and we definitely took the chance on increasing the Holstee fan base. NYC is now dressed in Holstee Tees and FINs!
Thank you all for coming and for those of you who weren't able to join us - there will definitely be another Holstee trip to Union Square Market soon. We will let you know!
On Thursday (march 18th) and Friday (march 19th), we will share our passion with you in Union Sq, NYC - to get some sun, introduce you to our new team members... and of course to present our latest Holstee products! We will be there from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you are around, step by and enjoy some of our freshly Holstee made organic lemonade with us while listening to some good boombox tunes. And just in case you have some old t-shirts at home (no holes, no stains, well fitting), donate them to us and you will receive $10 off of one of our new shirts.
So, come out and join us. We can't wait to meet you!
This video doesn't need much description, but I love DIY (do it yourself) stuff and ways to upcycle clothing - so this is a win win! via Conceptual Devices.
We are working on a small project for Earth day and collecting any used or old t-shirts you have. So if you have any please let me know and I will pick up this weekend anywhere in NYC - mens & womens!
Here are a few requirements:
- No holes
- Well fitting
- No (pit) stains (except paint splatters...those are cool)
You will be rewarded for your contribution!!
Please pass the word on to your friends in the city.
